Managing Director Vivo Activewear

People sometimes ask me what I’m most proud of when it comes to Vivo, and my answer is invariably “the jobs we have created”. In the past 5 years Vivo has created over 60 jobs that didn’t exist before we did.  And as we all know, in this part of the world, every job holder has at least 7 people depending on them – which means that there are over 400 people whose lives are directly impacted by Vivo. People who may or may not have been able to send their children to decent schools, or to afford health care, or to feed their families every day.

And that number would be reduced by more than half if we did not manufacture locally.

“Buy Kenya, Build Kenya” may just seem like a government slogan to some – but I’ve seen first hand the difference it can make.  Don’t buy Made in Kenya just because it feels good (which I’m sure it does!) but do so because of the profound economic impact you are having.

Every shilling you spend on local products and services returns two to three times as much to our economy as money spent on imported ones.

It allows businesses like ours – focused on tailoring our products to suit YOU – to grow and offer you even better value. And as we grow it means we are not only able to create more direct jobs, but we can also expand the opportunities for other local entrepreneurs: we can hire more photographers/models/make up artists/stylists, get more print jobs done, hold more events and work with many more local businesses.

So my request to you is this… pay attention to what you are buying. If there is an option or opportunity to buy a local product instead of an imported one, then please do so! If you like it, then please tell your friends about it. And if you don’t like it, then please let us know. Take the time to give us feedback and tell us what you would have wanted to see differently. We value your opinion greatly and it’s the only way we will be able to improve and grow and one day be able to compete globally.  Let’s take Made in Kenya to a whole new level!

Many thanks for your insights and the push for us to by Kenyan brands I have been a great supporter of Vivo products since its inception.

However, I notice nowadays in Vivo stores there are also brands imported from other countries 🙁

I hope you can revert back to only stocking Vivo products that are made in Kenya and having the label “made in Kenya”.

That should also inspire us locals or in Kenya to support our own creativity as we have seen with Vivo products.

Otherwise, keep it up with the Vivo brand!

    Hello Wandia,

Another thing you should be proud of is being able to dress the plus size women like myself. Like now am wearing a very warm waterfall thanks to you. Could some of stretchy dresses be made abit bigger so that they don’t hold so tight. I would love to wear a size 20 even though am a size 18 just for it to be abit free.

The most important thing and most beautiful thing about this is the jobs Vivo is creating and at the same time selling brand Kenya.
